Van Ruymbeke breaks his Maiden
28 December 2007
Van Ruymbeke (IRE) provided a decent Christmas present for the Martin Grange Stables when winning at the healthy odds of 18/1 on December 27.
Running in the Pontin's Short Breaks Maiden Stakes (Class 5) (3yo+) (1200m), Van Ruymbeke, ridden by Liam Jones, showed plenty of courage to staying on strongly close to home.
He held off Cape Of Storms (Paul Mulrennan) by a head with Maraagel (J-P Guillambert) in third place a further length and a quarter back.
Van Ruymbeke wore an eye-shield for the first time and this along with a preference for the fibresand made the difference along with Jones’ patient ride.
By Indian Ridge (7.6f) from Badrah (USA), he will need to keep on improving however as this wasn’t the strongest of fields.
