Piccolo Diamante may have a 5th next to his name after Monday's outing to Kempton but the run was a lot better than it appears on paper.
The three-year-old son of Three Wonders was tardy at the jump in the Bet Now At Wbx.Com Handicap (Class 6) (3yo+,0-65) 1400m and that certainly didn't help him at the business end of the race.
Figaro Flyer took on the unusual role of leader and set the pace from Mistral Sky and Krakatau, with Piccolo Diamante well off the pace as they settled into stride.
Piccolo Diamante (Martin Dwyer) stayed on well though and was full of running over the final stages, completely running out of room in the last furlong, with the race commentator summing it up well as they crossed the line.
"...and the unluckiest horse was Piccolo Diamante."
"He got held up right when he needed to get out, he got home on the bridle!" said Danny Murphy.
"We should have had two winners on the day (Music Box Express 3rd) but that's the way it goes sometimes.
"Both horses have run super, no doubt about it."
Jools (Hayley Turner) was the eventual winner of the race finishing quickly to snatch victory from Tanforan by a half length, with Rabbit Fighter in third place a further half-length away. Piccolo Diamante finished in fifth place, dead-heating with Mistral Sky.
