Three-year-old Irish bred filly Blue Rocket lived up to her name on Friday in Ireland when she came home like the proverbial rocket, to win the ladbrokespoker.com Race (3yo+) 6f on Dundalk's All-Weather surface.
Ridden by Pat Smullen, Blue Rocket was snookered away on the inside in the straight and it wasn't looking at all rosy when Smullen's attempt at switching off heels was foiled and he had no choice but to stay where he was and hope for the best.
Eventually lady luck arrived and with a gap opening up at exactly the right time, Blue Rocket put her best hoof forward and sprinted through to win going away by three quarters of a length to Herotozero (S Foley) with Romeo's On Fire (Kevin Manning) a half length further back.
Blue Rocket is a beautifully bred filly by Rock Of Gibraltar (IRE) from Champagne Girl (Robellino (USA) and while it's been a long time between drinks, she last won when on debut back in August 2006, this performance was a real turnabout and will give her plenty of extra confidence to ensure she can go ahead and add further wins to her tally.
